いきものがかり

Some months ago, just as I switched the TV on, a band came on and performed a song called 「ありがとう」. The song caught my ears and the vocal’s distinguishable voice caught my attention. The 2-male-instrumentalist-1-female-vocalist configuration further established my interest in this band as they were similar to ELT, a band where junior high school students now have absolutely no idea of. Ask them for a 3-letter band, they’d probably give you AKB.

In spite of whatever little interest I had in the band, I didn’t care enough to look them up or give their other numbers a try. It was not until another unrelated TV program ran their 「Yell」, that I sat up and really took notice. Immediately after the program, I entered いきものがかり into Google and thought about purchasing their latest CD. The best thing was, the album was a Member’s Best Selection. Alright!

Now, I’m hooked.

I hope I don’t come across as an infatuated teen blindly recommending bands who can neither sing nor dance, not even remotely (not gonna say I’m talking about Taiwanese band Fahrenheit), but though the vocal did sing a false note – or a couple of them – in this video, the song’s magnificent. Please give it a try. And if you understand Japanese, you’ll appreciate the lyrics too.

Here you are, いきものがかり – Yell
