Minegishi Minami of AKB48 has recently become the new victim of tabloid when she was reported as having spent the night with Exile’s brother group, Generations’ member Shirahama Aran. That wouldn’t have been a big deal except that her contract with AKB48 stipulates that all members of the group shall not get into boy-girl relationships.
It was apparently so strict, they weren’t even allowed to go out alone with another guy, much less go on dates. After being exposed, she shaved herself bald at her own discretion and posted an apology video on YouTube voicing her intention to stay with the group and hope that she won’t be removed.
Some people interviewed on the streets of Akihabara suggested that she should quit the group if she feels that the restrictions are too harsh for her to handle. Others are shocked at her actions as shaving bald will definitely affect her activities with a group like AKB hereafter. Below’s the video of her apology with much much shorter hair.
I was about to jump on the “fuck the tabloids” wagon when it struck me that this exposure also revealed her action of breaching the terms of the contract she signed. So which is worse?
Regardless, the lesser of two evils is still evil.
On a random note, Exile has so many members, they should probably change their name to EXL48.
