賞味期限 vs 消費期限

If you’ve ever bought anything from the supermarket or convenience store, you would notice either of the above, though mostly 賞味期限.

I used to think 賞味期限 is the expiry date but later learnt that it isn’t. 賞味期限 is just the date by which the manufacturer guarantees tastiness, and does not necessarily mean you can’t consume it anymore after the date. The product can still be safe to consume, but would not be as tasty.

消費期限, however, is the real expiry date. Unless you are looking to go visit that handsome or beautiful doctor, avoid consuming products past their 消費期限.
