When I first decided to move to Japan some 4.5 years ago, the father did what he does best, i.e. oppose. He knew that he couldn’t stop me from what I decided to do, so his tactic was to try sell me China with its potential economic growth, and how my filthy rich distant relatives could give me a hand. But I had decided to not listen to any of that.
The father and the mother visited Japan with 7 of their friends for the first time in January this year, and the father said to me, “Now I understand why you like Japan so much.”
That was enough to make me want to cry.
My younger sister used to rave about Korea (what with the K-wave in drama and pop music) and how she wanted to go back there (again). That was until I went on my 2nd trip to Japan with her last year (her first). And now she’s a convert. And she has plans to convert the mom as well. ^_^V (Perfect excuse for another trip there.)
Awesome! ^^
japan > china
This post really touched my heart. I have been systematically making plans to work in Japan. It may not happen for another year or so as I’m building up teaching experience, but my dad is really opposed to the idea as well. I know his opposition comes from a well-meaning place – He doesn’t want his daughter too far from him – but hopefully one day he’ll understand.
I hope he will too! ^^
