2000年に1人の美少女

Remember Hashimoto Kanna, the once-in-a-thousand-years angelic idol?

Apparently, the Japanese media found someone who tops her. Her name is 滝口ひかり (Takiguchi Hikari) from idol group drop. Someone they dubbed “2000年に1人の美少女” or “once-in-two-thousand-years beauty.”

Nonsense.

Looking at these pictures. I do think she looks really cute.

But these are pictures taken for her photobook, so the images make her look better than she actually is. She looks like this on TV.

Is she cute? Yes. I think she looks like 二階堂ふみ (Nikaido Fumi). But to dub her a “once-in-two-thousand-years beauty” is quite a stretch.

Unfortunately, this is the habit of Japanese media. If you look at their past reports on major wine events, they go “best wine in the last 50 years.” And then the following year, “best wine in the last 100 years.” And then the following year, “an unseen treasure in the last 50 years.” And so on. The same goes for reports on typhoons, hot weather, earthquake, etc. “Worst typhoon in the last 80 years,” “Hottest May weather in the last 82 years,” “Biggest earthquake in the last 60 years.” Or whatsoever.

Show me an idol from 2000 years ago and maybe I’ll shut up.
