The tour begins in Tokyo, departing immediately for Takasaki to visit Shorinzan Daruma Temple, home of the Daruma Doll, where you can try your hand at painting one for yourself. We go from there to Karuizawa, a beautiful mountain resort town, to see the impressive architecture of the Uchimura Kanzo Memorial Stone Church and behold breathtaking Shiraito Falls. The tour proceeds from there to Yudanaka Onsen in Nagano, home to the adorable Japanese macaques, also known as Snow Monkeys, who you can enjoy watching as they roam around their habitat - a natural outdoor hot spring. In Matsumoto, we briefly stop for a visit to the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum to admire the works of a broad collection of masters popular in the Edo period, such as Hiroshige, Eisen, Masanobu, and Hokusai. Then we go to Takayama, which offers the regional history of the Old Town heritage district and Takayama Jinya government office, and the local culture of a lively Morning Market. We go up into the mountains to visit Shirakawa- go, a town added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its unique style of architecture. At the Shiroyama viewpoint you can take all of these picturesque houses in at a glance, before exploring these unique houses with thatched roofs at the Gassho-zukuri Minkaen, an open- air museum. The tour ends in Kanazawa, where we stroll through breathtaking Kenrokuen Garden, study the elegant feudal residences in the Nagamachi Samurai District, and learn to decorate with delicate gold leaf, which is the city’s signature product.
