Travel on a cherry blossom filled journey through Honshu and Hokkaido, and experience the Takayama Spring Festival.

“Hanami”, or cherry blossom viewing, is a special, old Japanese custom. You can experience this tradition plus many others such as the Takayama Sanno Spring Festival when you join this tour. We have designed this tour for travelers who wish to discover parts of Japan that are rarely seen as well as famous sights of Tokyo and Kyoto. This tour will focus on modern city attractions, historical towns, rural landscapes, and the Takayama Festival.

Begin in Osaka before traveling to Nara to see the remarkable Todaiji Temple and the Nara Deer Park. Spend two days in the prominent city of Kyoto, where we have hand selected the best gardens and temples to enjoy Japan’s seasonal cherry blossoms. Visit Arashiyama, located on the outskirts of Kyoto, famous for its bamboo forest and traditional Zen landscape garden at Tenryuji Temple. Then, ride a high speed Shinkansen bullet train for experience.

Our travel group will also have opportunities to experience a traditional green tea ceremony, meet an apprentice geisha (maiko). Stroll through the beautiful Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa before visiting the charming village of Shirakawa-go, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Takayama, get a glimpse of what 15th Century Japan was like as you watch thousands of people dressed in costumes, traditional music performances, and stunning ornate floats parade the town at the Takayama Spring Festival.

Enjoy the ever-changing scenery along the way to Mt. Fuji, then take a ropeway ride over Hakone and Owakudani. Enjoy a guided tour in Tokyo, where you will visit the city’s cultural landmarks, fashionable neighborhoods, diverse shopping districts, and even learn how to make your own sushi with a professional chef. Explore attractions like the bustling streets of Shibuya, Asakusa district with an atmosphere of old Tokyo, Japan's largest and busiest fish market, drive by the historical Imperial Palace, and take in the view from the record-breaking Tokyo Skytree’s main observation deck.

Visit the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum and see over 100 bonsai masterpieces before traveling to Nikko. From there, we will visit the Kegon Waterfall, one of Japan's three most beautiful waterfalls. Then, discover the uniquely decorated Toshogu Shrine, dedicated to the founder of Japan’s Tokugawa Shogunate.

Proceed to Matsushima, a picturesque bay full of pine tree-covered small islands, where we'll explore ancient caves once frequented by meditating monks. Matsushima is famous for being one of the Three Most Beautiful Natural Sights in Japan. Then we head up to Hiraizumi for a cultural interlude and stroll around the magnificent Japanese Cedar Trees and photogenic buildings at Chusonji Temple. Enjoy the Kitakami Tenshochi Cherry Blossom Festival before proceeding to Hakodate by crossing the Tsugaru channel between the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu, via the undersea train tunnel.

Our trip continues in Hokkaido, the second largest, northernmost, and least developed land of Japan's four main islands. On the island of Hokkaido, we will visit Hakodate, Onuma Park, Lake Toya, Noboribetsu, Shiraoi, Otaru, and end our tour in Sapporo.
