The top destinations of Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, and especially Mount Fuji, feature spectacular locations that are unmissable in autumn. Our Discover Japan itineraries add a selection of the best autumn leaves sites along with stops in Yudanaka and Obuse, and hike through the Kiso Valley along the Old Nakasendo Road, for a complete tour to delight travelers looking for that once-in-a-lifetime Japan tour experience amid breathtaking autumn colors.

The tour starts in Tokyo, with a schedule of sights and activities, featuring the captivating rows of bright yellow ginkgo trees along Jingu Gaien Ginkgo Avenue and the strolling paths of Rikugien Garden, bright with maple leaves. Your time in Tokyo also includes a Sushi-making Experience, Tsukiji Outer Market, Imperial Palace, Asakusa Sensoji Temple, Nakamise Street, and Shibuya Crossing. We go from there to the Fuji Five Lakes area, taking in the views of the sacred Mountain from Arakurayama Sengen Park and Lake Kawaguchi, with a special stop at the lake’s “Momiji Kairo”, or Maple Corridor to admire its fall foliage. We depart to Matsumoto, which serves as our gateway to a day with the cute and curious Snow Monkeys of Yudanaka followed by a hike from Magome to Tsumago in the breathtaking Kiso Valley along the Old Nakasendo Road, the landscape of which is adorned with splashes of autumn color. Please check our itinerary for the different optional ways you can enjoy this time-honored walk.
