Discover the must-see sights of our Southern Japan & Okinawa (Reverse) - Spring for a tour to the less-traveled Southern regions of Japan - Hiroshima, Kyushu, Shikoku, and Okinawa Island.

For travelers looking to explore the regions of Southern Japan (Southern Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu), plus Okinawa, this is the best tour of Southern Japan you’ll find! We include the must-see sights of Okinawa Island, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Southern Honshu on an unforgettable tour of Japan.

The tour starts on Okinawa Island during the delightful spring season. The itinerary includes both traditional historic sites of the old Ryukyu Kingdom (many of which are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites), and contemporary landmarks connected to WW2 and the Battle of Okinawa. Stops include Shuri Castle, the Himeyuri Museum, the Peace Memorial Park, and the Sefa-Utaki religious site. We also enjoy local experiences including a visit to an Awamori Distillery, a cooking lesson with Okinawa longevity foods, and shopping at Kokusaidori and Mihama American Village. No tour of Okinawa would be complete without taking time to enjoy the nature and wildlife, and our tour includes a visit to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Gyokusendo Cave, Southeast Botanical Gardens, and Kouri Bridge.

The tour continues to the island of Kyushu, starting in Nagasaki. We visit the Nagasaki Peace Park, which features a memorial for those who perished due to the atomic bomb, and features an impressive statue. While in Nagasaki, we include the Dejima District, picturesque Glover Garden, and Oura Church. We continue to Takachiho, a town strongly connected to Shinto myth and legend, where we see Takachiho Shrine, and Amano Iwato Shrine and Amano Yasukawara Cave, which is connected to a famous story of Amaterasu that is told at night during the Evening Yokagura performance. In Beppu, we visit the famed Hells of Beppu - natural hot springs with interesting features, and also visit Takasaki Monkey Park, where you can interact with local wild monkeys. We go from there to Hiroshima, stopping at the Kitsuki Samurai District along the way. In Hiroshima, we visit its Peace Memorial Park and Museum, as well as Itsukishima Shrine, with its famed “floating gate” We drive the Shimanami Kaido over six picturesque islands in the Seto Inland Sea on our way to Shikoku Island, where we see the old houses preserved in the Shikoku Mura Village and breathtaking Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu. We drive across the Seto-Ohashi Bridge back to Honshu, and on arrival we visit magnificent Himeji Castle and the Kurashiki Canal District. We include a dinner of world- famous wagyu beef in Kobe before the tour ends in Osaka.

Experience the beautiful island of Okinawa along with Southern Japan - a perfect tour for travelers looking for a tour through a Japan less-traveled.
