The Super Grand Tour of Japan - Cherry Blossoms, Baby Blue Eyes and Aoi Festival is an extensive tour through all of Japan, planned to include the Kyoto Aoi Festival, the Baby Blue Eyes of Hitachi Seaside Park, and Hokkaido cherry blossoms.

Our Super Grand Tour of Japan - Cherry Blossoms, Baby Blue Eyes, and Aoi Festival, visits all four of the main islands of Japan, plus breathtaking Okinawa Island. The tour is carefully planned to include cherry blossoms on Hokkaido, fields of baby blue eyes flowers, and Kyoto’s famous Aoi Festival.

The tour begins by traveling through Hokkaido during the beautiful cherry blossom season, then going down through Tohoku down towards Tokyo, stopping along the way to enjoy fields of Baby Blue Eyes flowers. We proceed to Hakone / Mount Fuji, then we go on to Kyoto, just in time for the stately Aoi Festival. We continue on through Hiroshima, then around Shikoku Island and Kyushu Island, finally finishing the tour with a week exploring the local culture of Okinawa Island.

The Super Grand Tour begins on Hokkaido, where we visit Otaru’s scenic Canal and heritage Sakaimachi Street. We continue to Sapporo to see sites including the Historical Village of Hokkaido, Odori Park, and Susukino. We continue south, stopping to see Noboribetsu “Hell Valley”, Lake Toya, Onuma Park, and the city of Hakodate, featuring Red Brick Warehouses and Fort Goryokaku.

We proceed via Undersea Tunnel bullet train to Honshu Island, stopping in Morioka to eat delicious Wanko Soba. In Hiraizumi, we see the UNESCO World Heritage Chusonji Temple, then take in the view of Matsushima Bay’s beautiful pine-covered islets. In Nikko, we see Toshogu Shrine and stunning Lake Chuzenji, then visit Hitachi Seaside Park to see hills covered with baby blue eyes flowers. Experience the incredible city of Tokyo, visiting the busy Tsukiji Outer Market, the Sensoji Temple, and Tokyo SkyTree. We continue to the Hakone / Mount Fuji region to enjoy views of Owakudani on the Hakone Ropeway before going to Kyoto to experience the Aoi Festival, featuring a procession of 500 people walking through the streets in Heian-period clothing. While there, tour the best of Kyoto’s temples and historic sites, and browse its traditional shops. We stop to see the picturesque Kurashiki Canals as the tour proceeds to Shikoku Island to visit the Shikoku Mura Village and beautiful Ritsurin Park in Takamatsu. We take the scenic Shimanami Kaido to Hiroshima, taking a walk around the Peace Memorial Park and admiring the view through Itsukushima Shrine’s Floating Gate. We travel from there to Kyushu, exploring the Kitsuki Samurai Districts, admiring the boiling Hells of Beppu, and enjoying the company of wild Japanese monkeys at Mt. Takasaki Monkey Park. We visit Takachiho to experience Japan’s Shinto legends with a Yokagura Dance Performance before we tour the city of Nagasaki, where you can study the European influence on the city’s history through visits to Glover Garden, Oura Church, and Dejima. Our time in Kyushu ends in Fukuoka with a delectable Wagyu beef dinner.

We start our tour of Okinawa at Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters, then attend an Okinawa Cooking Class featuring the native Okinawan longevity foods, and tour an awamori distillery, which makes the local liquor. We walk the international Kokusaidori Shopping street and browse the foods at Makishi Public Market. We visit the Sefa-Utaki religious site before traveling to Okinawa World to walk through the spectacular Gyokusendo Cave. We then admire the beauty of the Peace Memorial Park and study the tragic story of the Himeyuri girls at a local museum. In the evening, we attend a traditional Ryukyu Dance and Okinawan Dinner Show. We then explore the ancient Ryukyu sites at Tamaudun Mausoleum and Shuri Castle before admiring the lovely flora at the Southeast Botanical Gardens. We then shop for souvenirs at Mihama American Village. On the last day, we take a trip to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium - considered one of the best aquariums in Japan. Then we explore Nakijin Castle Ruins and a drive across scenic Kouri Bridge.
