Taiwan, where we explore some of the island's truly
magnificent nature sights. Qingshui Cliff presents a
grand view of the Pacific on the way to Taroko National

marble. Admire the azure eye of Taiwan with a cruise of

Temple
surrounded in cute deer, the Golden Pavilion with its
exquisite phoenix, Kyomizu Temple and its dramatic
veranda, Fushimi Inari and its thousand gates: each
presents a pretty picture of Japanese traditional
splendor. Kyoto is the best place for cultural immersion,
and we include an experience of classical refinement: a
green tea ceremony hosted by a geisha apprentice. We
travel from there to Hikone Castle, where exquisite
Genkyuen Garden offers a spot of peaceful

region is especially lovely in spring, where especially

Begin the day with breakfast at your hotel, then take a drive to Taroko National Park. On the way, we will drive along Qingshui Cliffs, a Taiwan natural wonder stretching along the gorgeous Pacific coastline. Then we will take time to explore the Taroko National Park, taking in its incredible features. The star attraction is breathtaking Taroko Gorge, a beautiful gorge lined in marble stone, with a river rushing through a tree-lined canyon. Another must-see is the shrine of the Eternal Spring, one of the park's most stunning locations, where a charming shrine building sits prettily atop a waterfall, making for a picturesque scene.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then we depart Hualien and travel to majestic Sun Moon Lake. Taiwan's largest lake, Sun Moon Lake is so-called for its shape, which has a rounded eastern shore like the sun, and a curved crescent western shore like the moon. Lunch will be on your way. Upon arrival, embark on a shuttle boat tour around the lake, which includes views of Lalu Island. The lake's only island is reserved for special religious practices and so cannot be visited, but the panoramic views of the lake are wonderful to behold. If the weather is clear, look out for the elegant spire of Ci En Pagoda. After, you will stay overnight at our lakeside accommodation for a relaxing evening.

Today, enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing Sun Moon Lake for Chiayi. Today, our focus turns to Taiwan's astounding natural beauty as we are heading to Alishan Mountain nestled in the ancient cypress forest. Hike through the verdant Alishan National Forest, an exhilarating walk that features breathtaking mountain scenery. Then we enjoy a relaxing ride through the mountains on the Alishan Forest Railway before heading to our hotel in Chiayi and a relaxing evening.

Start off with breakfast at the hotel before we depart Chiayi and head to Taichung. We visit the Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden. Built in the 1800s, this palatial mansion was home to one of Taiwan's most influential families, and included such buildings as a Tower of Prospective Fragrance, a Great Flower Hall, and a Hibiscus-Mirror Studio. Nearby is the Lin Family Garden, which is one of the island's prettiest, with a number of little picturesque features to search for while on your relaxing stroll. Enjoy a delightful lunch before we discover the beautiful Rainbow Village - a little town of surprising street art, with houses painted in a colorful, psychedelic style. From there we visit the National Taichung Theater, built in an ultra-modern architectural style which the architect envisioned as a grand whirlpool, where the construction acts as artistic complement to the galleries on display. After, we explore Fengjia Night Market, Taiwan's largest night market, before a relaxing night at the hotel.

After breakfast, we continue our route back to Taipei. Our first stop is the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, which is one of Taiwan's major monuments. Considered a Founding Father of the modern state of Taiwan, Chiang Kai-Shek was a famed military general and president of China who administered his government from Taiwan. Many Taiwanese people hold him in especially high regard, and his memorial is a grand reflection of his legacy, with a large bronze statue seated under an opulent pagoda. After lunch, we visit the National Palace Museum, a magnificent museum complex boasting an expansive collection peering back through 8,000 years of Chinese art. Finally, the tour proceeds to the Taipei 101 shopping mall, which is located in the tallest tower in the city and at one time tallest in the world. The shopping mall on the lower levels offers a perfect chance at finding that perfect memento from your vacation. After, we return to the hotel for a last relaxing night in Taipei.

Today, we will travel to the ancient city of Nara, where we will visit one of Japan’s most famous temples and an icon of the city: Todaiji Temple, which is home to the Great Buddha of Nara – a massive, seated image of Rushana-butsu, known as the “Cosmic Buddha”. Outside the temple, spend some time with the friendly wild deer of Nara Deer Park. We go from there to Kyoto – onetime capital of Japan for over a thousand years, to visit Fushimi Inari Shrine – the chief shrine of the thousands throughout the country dedicated to Inari, the Shinto deity of economic prosperity, rice, and foxes. What sets this shrine apart is the sight of thousands of bright vermillion “torii” gates that form long pathways through the forest covering sacred Mount Inari.

After breakfast, we begin our tour of Kyoto – the center of Japan’s traditional culture. We first go to the Arashiyama district to see Tenryuji Temple. Tenryuji is most famous for its Zen Garden, which has been carefully maintained for centuries using the technique of “borrowed scenery” to create a breathtaking landscape. We continue from there to the Sagano Bamboo Forest, where towering stalks of bamboo packed close together create an otherworldly feeling of mystery and awe as you walk the path through the center. Next, we go to Kinkakuji Temple (also called the Golden Pavilion), which is one of Kyoto’s most coveted sights. Walls wrapped in gold leaf are reflected in the Mirror Pond below; look carefully to see the dainty phoenix sitting on the roof. Then experience a traditional Green Tea Ceremony – an elegant ritual of hospitality once accorded only to the social elite. The experience is made even more special as it is hosted by an elegant Maiko (an apprentice Geisha). After, tour Kiyomizu Temple, also known as the Temple of Pure Water, a celebrated landmark famed for its iconic three- story pagoda, large wooden stage offering a spectacular view, and trio of sacred springs pouring from the base of the main hall. We end our day in the Gion Geisha District, a heritage district where stone-paved streets are lined with exclusive ochaya (teahouses). While admiring the old- fashioned buildings, the fortunate visitor may spot Geisha or Maiko (Geisha apprentices) walking between these establishments.
Kyoto Tokyu Hotel or similar class
This morning, we will visit the Miho Museum, which is distinguished for its fascinating architecture designed by I. M. Pei. The museum exhibits various collections from different ancient civilizations. It is named after Koyama Mihoko, one of the richest women in Japan and the founder of the museum. Miho Museum is also listed as one of the "1000 Places to See Before You Die". The group will continue to Hikone to visit Hikone Castle, an original castle that has survived the post feudal era without undergoing severe damages or reconstruction. It is considered an excellent impression of what a complete feudal castle looks like, and is a national treasure itself. Afterwards, visit the tranquil Genkyuen Garden, located on the grounds of Hikone Castle. Next, our group will experience a Shinkansen bullet train ride, which can reach speeds of up to 320 km/hr. (200mph). Tonight, you will stay at the Onsen Hotel at Hamanako Kanzaiji Onsen, where you can soak in the therapeutic waters of a spa bath (onsen) and feast on dinner in the comfort of your hotel.

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will travel to Hakone and take a 20 minute ropeway from Togendai to Owakudani. Much of the area here is considered an active volcanic zone since its creation from the eruption of Mount Hakone some 3,000 years ago. There, you can experience hot springs and hot rivers, where sulfurous fumes still linger. During clear skies, Owakudani also grants great views of Mount Fuji. From Hakone, we will proceed to the famous Mt. Fuji on our private coach. Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery, from thick vegetation to lowlands and rolling clouds. We will stop at Mt. Fuji 5th station (depending on weather) to admire the distinguished peak. In the afternoon, our group will travel to Tokyo. Our last stop of the day is in Shibuya. You will have to chance to see the famed Shibuya Crossing in action and cross the street with the crowd. Afterwards, you will get take photos with the Hachiko Statue, a monument dedicated to Japan's most loyal dog and his heart- touching story.

Today, you will visit Tsukiji Outer Market – a
bustling
outdoor street market known for its fresh and
delicious
seafood, produce, and kitchenware. From
there, we
drive by the Imperial Palace, which offers
splendid views
of the meticulously maintained front lawn and
garden
areas, the moat, and the old stone walls. Next,
enjoy a
fun and simple Sushi-Making Experience,
where you
can enjoy creating your own sushi, and eating it
afterwards! Then, we visit Tokyo’s oldest temple
complex – Asakusa Sensoji Temple, featuring
the
Kaminarimon Gate, in which hangs an
enormous red
lantern. Leading up to the temple is Nakamise
Street,
which is lined with shops selling all manner of
Japanese
souvenirs. At the end of the day, we ascend
Tokyo
Skytree to the observation deck (Tembo Deck),
which offers a
panoramic 360-degree view of the Tokyo
cityscape.

Taroko National Park is a nature preserve stretching across parts of Taichung Municipality, Nantou County, and Hualien County in Taiwan. The one of Taiwan’s prettiest regions, this park features stunning Taroko Gorge, a magnificent 18-kilometer-long marble canyon, called the “Grand Canyon of Taiwan”. Trails curving around captivating green mountains and sheer limestone cliffs are a hiker’s dream, with hidden geographical and architectural gems waiting to wow adventurous visitors including Baiyang Waterfalls, Bulowan Terrace, and Swallow Grotto – a natural swallow nesting ground. The Eternal Spring Shrine in particular is not to be missed: this gorgeous temple sits tucked into a little mountain shelf, with a charming white waterfall running out from the rocks underneath and down the rocky slope.
Qingshui Cliff is a sightseeing nature spot in Hualien County. It overlooks the Pacific Ocean from the eastern shelf of Taroko National Park.
Qingshui Cliff is located in Hualien County in Taiwan. Magnificent in clear weather and mysterious in the fog, Qingshui Cliff is one of Taiwan’s natural wonders. A breathtaking coastal cliff twenty-one kilometers long wraps around the edge of Qingshui Mountain in Taroko National Park. The cliff rises an average of 800 meters over the Pacific Ocean, making for an incredibly stunning, picturesque view. Whether driving along the cliff road or viewing it from the observation area, visitors are treated to the sight of marble limestone overgrown with bushy green shrubs rising over a gorgeous coastline and endless ocean. The Qingshui Cliff is a common stopping point for travelers on there way through Hualien County to visit Taroko Gorge.
Sun Moon Lake is located in Nantou County and is considered by many travelers to be the prettiest nature scene in Taiwan. The name of the lake comes from its distinctive shape, which appeared to the natives to be curved like the sun in the east and cut in the shape of a crescent moon in the west. In the center sits little Lalu Island, which is sacred ground to the aboriginal Thao people and is set apart for their use. Among the most popular ways to see the lake are cruise ferries, which take travelers out on the water for splendid views of gorgeous nature. Many prefer the cycling route, along the Shuishang Bikeway which provides cyclists a route to the local attractions, including Wenwu Temple, and must- see Ci En Pagoda. The area also provides a ropeway, which can be an especially breathtaking way to view Sun Moon Lake and surrounding area.

Although many travelers choose to hike, cycle, or take the ropeway over the gorgeous lake, shuttle boats offer unforgettable views of the lake’s incredible natural scenery that can’t be enjoyed any other way. splendid coastline of mountain ridges covered in greenery and often shrouded in fog and mist. At the center of the lake is little Lalu Island, a land sacred to the aboriginal Thao people, and shuttle boat tours take passengers to view this protected treasure up close (though outsiders are forbidden to walk on it). Shuttle boats also offer attractive views of Ita Thao – a native Thao village on the shores of the lake. Alishan National Forest is located in Chiayi County, Taiwan, and is considered the top mountain resort locale in the country. The mist-covered cypress woodland beckons travelers to bask in its mysterious beauty, especially in summer, when it is one of the island’s coolest regions. Breathtaking mountains cover the forest, bringing hikers in search of fantastic vistas. One of the most popular things to do at Alishan National Forest is to take in the sunrise over Jade Mountain. Once a logging forest during Japanese occupation, reforestation has preserved Alishan’s bewitching landscape. The narrow- gauge train tracks added to assist lumberjacks have since been repurposed as a charming scenic railway stretching about 86 kilometers. Charming diesel trains carry travelers around to the various forest features that look as though they might be long in a Chinese fairly- tale, including massive trees with twisted trunks, enchanting waterfalls, wooden bridges, and forest temples.

The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is one of Taiwan’s most stunning geographic locations, with dense rows of cypress trees shading the various hiking trails. Taking a walk through their hike on a foggy day. Some trails are narrow taking you up wooden or stone-paved paths up and around the rugged mountains, while other paths are broad and level, following old unused rail lines through the verdant woodland. Great trees like giants with large, twisted roots, pretty little waterfalls and streams tripping over grey stones, forest temples as grand as palaces, and long rickety bridges – Alishan Forest is a cornucopia of visual delights right out of a fairy tale. Perhaps the most popular forest hikes through Alishan are to view the sunrise over the magnificent mountains, which can be observed from a variety of breathtaking viewing areas.
The Alishan Scenic Forest Railway is a narrow-gauge, sightseeing railway that takes passengers to enjoy the gorgeous forests and mountains of the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area.
Scenic Alishan Forest Railway is a sightseeing rail line running through the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. The Scenic Railway features a switchback system for ascending the lovely mountains of the region, up to over 2,000 meters in elevation. The 86-kilometer-long railway was built during the period when Taiwan was a Japanese colony as convenient transit for Japanese workers heading to and from cypress lumbering sites, once stretching as far as Fenqihu Village. Now the old diesel train carries passengers along a narrow-gauge track into a fantasy forest of mystery and wonder, passing through over 50 tunnels through the rugged mountain landscape, as well as over 77 wooden bridges. The railway is divided into four segments, with the Chushan line segment being one of the most popular, conveying passengers to see the sunrise over Jade Mountain – the highest mountain in Taiwan.
Taichung is Taiwan’s second-largest city, and one of its most beautiful, rich with both cultural delights and natural splendor. The city has been affluent since the days of imperial China, with landmarks like the palatial Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden offering an inside look into traditional Chinese court culture. A center for the arts in Taiwan, travelers come to marvel at the Taichung National Theatre’s dramatic design, the creative atmosphere on the Calligraphy Greenway, and the bold colors of Rainbow Village. Taichung also hosts one of Taiwan’s top night markets: Fengjia Night Market is a dream locale, buzzing with travelers looking to sample tasty snacks or pick up a memorable souvenir. The city has its share of picturesque scenes, and among its most memorable is found while strolling the Gao-mei Wetlands around sunset in a gorgeous vision of massive windmills spinning over sun-drenched sandy flatlands.

Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden is an old mansion house built for a Chinese noble family during the Qing Dynasty in the city of Taichung. The opulent residence gives travelers a window into the Qing Dynasty’s elegant court culture. The overall mansion is subdivided into an upper and lower mansion to accommodate the large size of the Lin family, each section built to magnificence in palatial Chinese style. Even the names of certain sections of the mansion evoke the idea of regal richness in the imaginations of those who visit – the Tower of Prospective Fragrance, the Hibiscus-Mirror Studio and many other parts of the mansion maintain a distinguished ambience. The attached garden is one of Taiwan’s most spectacular, and also has locations right out of a Chinese fable, including a Pool of Small Habits, a Veranda for Contemplating Nirvana, and the Flying Goblet Drunken Moon Pavilion.
Rainbow Village is a colorful, artsy village in the city of Taichung covered with adorable pictures of various animals and characters drawn by an elderly military veteran called “Grandpa Rainbow”.
Rainbow Village is a former military dependents’ community in the city of Taichung. One military veteran had the idea to make his world a little brighter and more enjoyable, and this mesmerizing explosion of color is the delightful result. Huang Yung-Fu, now known as “Grandpa Rainbow”, was one of the last people living in this community, which was scheduled for demolition. One day he began painting colorful birds around the walls of his home, eventually adding various other animals and cutesy characters. When he ran out of space he moved on to other empty homes in his neighborhood. Eventually the whole village was covered in his colorful art, which led the local city government to preserve Rainbow Village. Now the psychedelic colors of the village draw travelers from all over the world.
The National Taichung Theater is an iconic building in Taiching, Taiwan. The theater is a structure with a unique modern design built to accommodate a variety of performance arts.
The National Taichung Theater is a grand theater building in Taichung which displays professional offerings for both local and international performance arts. The building itself is a local marvel with a modern design, built by innovative Japanese architect Toyo Ito in 2014. It has since become an icon of the city of Taichung. Its bulbous, free-flowing form has been compared by Ito to a whirlpool, with the voices and arts inside flowing out like waterspouts. The inside of the theater is just as impressive, with multiple performance areas, including an opera gallery, playhouse, and a modular “Black Box”. There is also a “Tutu Gallery”, resembling a ballerina’s dress, where artwork is displayed. There is also an expansive park for visitors out in front of the building, inspiring creativity whether you are exploring the inside or outside.
Fengjia Night Market is the busiest night market in Taichung. Mouthwatering snacks and other foods are sold from the stalls around market.
Fengjia Night Market is by far the most popular nighttime street market in Taichung. The night market sprang up around the same time as the opening of Feng Chia University, which brought an influx of business to the area. It is one of the top places in Taiwan to sample some delicious street food. You’ll find these mouthwatering foods in brightly lit shops decorated in bold colors, with cute themes and characters that make each stand unique. Health & Activity | In order to enjoy our tour, you should be able to walk reasonable distances, often over unpaved and uneven surfaces. Some of the most memorable sightseeing activities can only be accomplished on foot. Wheelchairs can be arranged upon request. However, we regret that we’re unable to provide individual assistance to guests with walking difficulties or other personal needs.
