Discover the beauty of Southern Japan in spring on this delightful group tour that takes your to experience the history and culture of Hiroshima, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Okinawa Island.

This Southern Japan and Okinawa Spring tour is a 13-day tour to the southern regions of Japan including Hiroshima, Shikoku, and Kyushu, plus a week-long tour of Okinawa Island. It’s a perfect tour for travelers looking for an itinerary that explores the less-traveled regions of southern Japan.

The tour begins in Osaka with a visit to Himeji Castle, a splendid example of traditional architecture and one of the few original castles remaining in Japan. Then, we will make our way to the photogenic canal area of Kurashiki, cross the inland sea to Shikoku Island, visit the open air museum of Shikoku Mura Village, and see why Japanese gardens are famous in Takamatsu. From Shikoku Island, we will drive through the Shimanami Kaido, a 60 kilometer long toll road that connects Japan's main island of Shikoku to the island of Honshu, passing over six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea, back to Honshu Island. Proceed to Hiroshima where you’ll visit the Peace Memorial Museum and surrounding Peace Park. On Miyajima Island, you will have a chance to view the famed 'floating' Torii Gate of Itsukushima Shrine. From Hiroshima, we will take a ride on the top speed Shinkansen bullet train to Kyushu Island and visit the Kitsuki Samurai Districts. In Beppu, marvel at the Jigoku 'hell' of bubbling waters and geysers scattered across the town. Then enjoy a scenic drive to Mt. Takasaki Monkey Park where you will get an opportunity to meet with some of the 1,500 wild Japanese monkeys up close. We will also explore Takachiho, a place of myths and legends. In Nagasaki, visit the Nagasaki Peace Park that holds the memorial for the victims of the second bomb that hit the land. A statue of a man pointing up and holding his other arm out is symbolic of the Nagasaki Peace Park. Our next site is Dejima, an area with over 400 years of history in Dutch trade. It features historical warehouses and residences, providing insight into the former Dutch Trade Post and how they lived during Japan's two centuries of isolation. Then, visit the Glover Gardens, an open air museum where we can see a fine collection of historic mansions of former Western residents of Nagasaki. Continue to the Oura Catholic Church, the oldest standing Christian church in Japan. It was also the first Western building in Japan to be designated as a national treasure.

On this tour, you will have a chance to savor the world famous Wagyu beef in Fukuoka, watch a Yokagura Dance Performance, and stay one night at a traditional Japanese Onsen Ryokan. You will also have the opportunity to relax in the therapeutic waters of a natural spa bath at an onsen, enjoy the fine flavors of a traditional Japanese banquet dinner, and take an evening stroll dressed in your yukata. Immersing yourself in Japanese culture while surrounded by the charm and picturesque architecture of exquisite wooden buildings, shoji sliding paper doors, tatami mat floors, and courtyard gardens is the essence of this tour.

The tour continues through Okinawa Island on a week-long tour during the spring season. The itinerary includes both traditional historic sites of the old Ryukyu Kingdom (many of which are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites), and contemporary landmarks connected to WW2 and the Battle of Okinawa. Stops include Shuri Castle, the Himeyuri Museum, the Peace Memorial Park, and the Sefa-Utaki religious site. We also enjoy local experiences including a visit to an Awamori Distillery, a cooking lesson with Okinawa longevity foods, and shopping at Kokusaidori and Mihama American Village. No tour of Okinawa would be complete without taking time to enjoy the nature and wildlife, and our tour includes a visit to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Gyokusendo Cave, Southeast Botanical Gardens, and Kouri Bridge.

Experience the beautiful island of Okinawa along with Southern Japan - a perfect tour for travelers looking for a tour through a Japan less-traveled.
