Wisteria Tunnel at Kawachi Fuji Gardens

Wisteria Tunnel at Kawachi Fuji Gardens

The Wisteria Tunnel at Kawachi Fuji Gardens is covered with the trellises of the flower. Different colored wisteria hang from the tunnel giving it a rainbow look as you continue through the area. At the end you will be greeted with 100 year old wisteria trees.

In the Kawachi Fuji Gardens there are two Wisteria Tunnels that were popularized in 2012 when someone posted about it on a website. One tunnel is 80 meters long (263 feet) and the other is 220 meters (722 feet). The tunnels feature different colored wisteria as you continue down the path and are separated like a rainbow. At the end of the tunnel are more wisterias, where some are more than 100 years old. There are areas where you can relax while being surrounded by wisteria. You can see many people having picnic lunch under the trellises of the wisteria. There is also wisteria domes located in the interior of the Kawachi Fuji Gardens.

Kawachi Fuji Gardens is a privately owned and was first opened in April of 1977. The garden is located in Kitakyushu, which is 5 hours away by bullet train. It is only open during the wisteria and autumn season. On the grounds you can see 150 wisteria trees and over 20 species of the flower. The best time to visit the area is usually at the end of April to beginning of May, which is Golden Week. It may be very crowded around that time so it is good to plan ahead of time. In Japanese the word for wisteria is fuji. This should help to avoid confusion with the famous mountain and apple brand.
