#彼氏いません

There’s a very disturbing trend going on in Japan concerning micro-blogging site Twitter.

The tag #彼氏いません, which means “I don’t have a boyfriend,” has been among the most popular hash tags and the content reveals a very unhealthy societal movement. Not that having no boyfriend is a problem, but the people who share this tag all do the very same thing. Imagine themselves having a boyfriend and tweeting the things that their imaginery boyfriend said to or did for them. The rest of the people in the same group would acknowledge them as truths posting comments displaying envy even though they know that none of them have real boyfriends. These comments sometimes escalate into displays of anger on imaginery arguments or even intimate details.

Tell me I’m wrong but I think the trend needs to be stopped.
