I… I’m just speechless. What are you thoughts on this show?
I don’t know. This seems to be pretty much pornography, except that anyone can participate. Free hand-job in exchange for appearing on TV? Not a bad deal for some people, I’d say. And the girls giving the hand-job are supposedly specially selected for their techniques.
But it’s on late-night BS satellite TV so it probably isn’t that bad for those who are desperate for some free, quality hand-jobs. It is worthy to note that the total viewership on prime time BS and CS satellite TV combined is at around 7%. That is approximately 8.4 million people divided between around 100 channels. At an average of 84,000 viewers per channel on prime time satellite TV, I’d say going on a late-night show for hand-jobs isn’t that bad. Exposure is considerably low. At least for the first couple of episodes. Since it gained traction for it’s almost pornographic content, I’m assuming people the world over would get to watch it especially since YouTube isn’t blocking it for adult content for some reason. I’ve seen videos of women in bikinis being flagged as content only suitable for adults but for some reason, this series that features naked women having sex is “suitable for viewers of all ages(?)” YouTube needs to step up their content review. But then again, this works out well for us — saves us the hassle of logging in and be tracked on our viewing habits.
On a more professional note, this show provides more platforms for those in the adult industry so their source of income does not have to be restricted to releasing sex videos. From a mainstream point of view, this is pretty much like regular variety shows specializing on specific topics giving the less known professionals an opportunity to shoot for fame. Occasionally, when I watch fictional American dramas about cities running on vice businesses, it sometimes makes me wonder if Japan is in one of such situations since its pornographic industry is huge. I believe there’s a law that prohibits distribution of indecent material (as well as prostitution), but to what extent it is imposed, I do not know. Apparently not much, which is to the good of most people (and perhaps the country).
While I cringe at the thought of this show being even conceived of in the first place, I must admit that I am impressed by the creativity of the Japanese media and cannot deny that I find the show enjoyable to watch.
On a separate note, a friend from Switzerland said western media is reporting this as variety on regular TV, which is absolute nonsense. If that is true, it’s disappointing to know that an irresponsible blogger like myself, who doesn’t do much research, actually does more research than mainstream TV in the western society.
Wow. Well, thanks a lot for posting this here. =)
I don’t think I’ll be watching the show, but it’s good to know more about the many different things you can see on Japanese T.V.
I totally agree with you on that, despite not liking the idea of this being aired on T.V., it’s impressive what the Japanese came up with. Of course, as you say, it shouldn’t be too bad as it is aired late at night. =P
