The Shiritori Curiosity

The Japanese have a word game called Shiritori, where players are required to say a word that begins with the final syllable (or kana) of the previous word by the previous player. For some reason, the first person always begins the game with ringo (apple), the second person gorira (gorilla), and third person rappa (trumpet). It seems that this is the standard progression of the game and only after that, will the next person say something (anything) that begins with pa.

If it is always going to be ringo→gorira→rappa, why not just start the game with rappa?
